Valentine's Day Ideas
Alternative treats to celebrate the day, plus suggestions for dinner at home
With Valentine’s Day a little more than a week away, it’s time to get those plans in place. Whether you will spend the day with a romantic partner, family, friends, pets, or rolling solo, I have some suggestions to switch it up from the standard chocolates and flowers.
Jeff and I prefer to celebrate our anniversary in April with some fine dining. However, we will typically use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to cook up something extra nice at home. Last year, he made me a dish of wild-caught, Chilean Sea Bass over a bed of creamed rainbow chard with oven-blistered grape tomatoes, dressed in a lemon beurre blanc sauce.
The Sea Bass was purchased at the Kenmore Fish Market at 3279 Delaware Avenue in, you guessed it, Kenmore. This is our favorite place for sourcing seafood to be made at home but they also offer fried fish, shrimp, and scallops to-go, available every day they are open, Tuesday - Saturday.
If you too would like to cook a fancy meal at home this Valentine’s day but you’d like an assist, Pellicano’s Markletplace has got your back. Their Valentine’s Day special features two 8 oz filet mignons, two 7 oz lobster tails, two twice-baked potatoes and 2 cannoli for $59.99. Place your order online while supplies last. Pellicano’s Marketplace is located at 3338 Niagara Falls Blvd. in Tonawanda.
Plenty of places are offering heart-shaped pizzas. I started to make a list but honestly there were so many. I was looking for ideas even more unique. My social medica souring resulted in the following Valentine’s Day treats:
Heart-shaped charcuterie boards - SALT Cuisine at 2182 Kensington Avenue in Snyder
Heart-shaped mini cheesecakes - Genevieve’s Cheesecakes & Bake Shop at 5845 Transit Road in East Amherst
Pastry Boxes - JAM Parkside at 301 Parkside Avenue in Buffalo
Handcrafted Ice Cream Bonbons - Lake Effect Ice Cream, order online, pick-up up at either 1900 Hertel Avenue in Buffalo or 79 Canal Street in Lockport
Keeping it short and sweet this week. If you know of any other unique, Valentine’s Day options, please share them in the comments.
Since any candy craving I have for Valentines has to be quality over quantity, I'm a big fan of getting cherry cordials and perhaps a few other small items from King Condrell's in Kenmore.
As a food pic enjoyer, that sea bass photo needs to be blown up to poster size and hung on a wall. It looks fantastic!
