It’s time I start talking about the restaurants that bring joy to my life. The ballots for The Buffalo News, Best of 716 (2022), were posted yesterday and I was happy to see that some of my favorites made the list. In particular, nominated in the category of, Best Breakfast, was our favorite place, Nick’s Place Express.
Now to be fair, there are some other great breakfast places nominated including one that I will get to writing about eventually. But Jeff and I are regulars at Nick’s Place Express, usually enjoying breakfast there at least twice a month. And I myself, have been a fan since discovering Nick’s back in the spring of 2017.
There has been a meme circulating social media lately that questions why breakfast dates are not more of a popular thing. I concur. While Jeff kind-of wanted to keep this place our little secret, we haven’t been able to help ourselves from inviting friends and family to join us. Now that the cat is out of the bag with this nomination, it’s time for me to gush publicly!
First and foremost, you must know about their Home Fries which have completely spoiled me for all other Home Fries. Soft on the inside, crisp on the outside, these beauties are pictured below as a part of the Country breakfast alongside eggs done over-easy and crisp bacon, a complete plate of perfection. Up top to the left we have some wheat toast made from homemade bread! Then, to the upper left, French Toast.
I have dined here A LOT. The quality is consistent, every plate a work of art. For pics of a few of my favorite meals here, check out [and follow] @OpentillFour on Instagram.

While I gush over the breakfast here, I should probably mention that Nick’s Place Express is open for breakfast and lunch as well. Although we are usually here early on a weekend morning, I have been by for a lunch a few times too. During the Lenten season, they do a killer fish fry! I have also enjoyed their burgers, BLT, and Open Souvlaki salad.
The ambience at Nick’s is casual, warm and friendly. They are tucked under some trees right in front of where the Lebanese Bakery used to be. The address for your GPS is 2466 Elmwood Avenue in Kenmore, near the corner of Westgate. Off-street parking is available to the right and rear of the building.
One [and only] caveat at Nick’s Place Express is that presently there is seating for approximately 20 diners total. But construction is underway as they expand into the space next door! I’m so excited for their growth and can’t wait to see the new space when it is finished! Nick’s offers catering for parties of any size but at least for the next month or so, I’d recommend dining here in parties of four or less. If you need to wait for a table, I promise you it will be worth the wait!
I like going out for breakfast, should do that more
Hey, I can leave a comment on an old post! Holy moly, those potatoes look absolutely perfect.
